ARCHITECTURE

Hi, I am Jay,

Ever since I was a child, architecture has been more than just buildings to me—it has been about creating experiences.

Growing up in China and later studying to the U.S., I was exposed to diverse architectural styles, which shaped my appreciation for spatial design and cultural narratives.

Now, as a senior architecture student at the University of Maryland, my work is driven by a desire to merge sustainability with timeless design principles. My portfolio includes projects ranging from intimate art galleries to expansive urban plazas, all designed with a keen focus on material innovation and ecological impact.

I believe architecture should not only serve its functional purpose but also inspire and tell a story. Through my academic research and hands-on projects, I continuously explore how design can foster deeper connections between people and their environments.

Metropolis Gallery

Handcrafted Model

Semester: Spring 2024 | UMD

Location: Shanghai, China, proposed site in a costal park

The Metropolis Gallery is a tranquil yet dynamic space that seamlessly integrates art, architecture, and nature, creating an immersive and sustainable experience by the sea.

Metropolis Eden

Semester: Spring 2024 | UMD

Location: Shanghai, China, proposed site in a costal park

Metropolis Eden is an urban sanctuary that redefines the relationship between nature, architecture, and human experience.

The Hollow Sanctuary

Semester: Fall 2024 | UMD

Location: Suwanee, Georgia

The Hollow Sanctuary is a serene space inspired by Chinese food culture. Sculptural elements represent traditional dining rituals and the cultural meaning of shared meals. The design encourages reflection, connection, and a deeper appreciation of heritage through spatial storytelling.

Piet Mondrain PROJECT

Semester: Spring 2024 | UMD

Location: N/A

Inspired by Mondrian’s Red Blue Yellow, this model transforms his composition into spatial form. It explores balance and asymmetry through intersecting planes, turning a two-dimensional painting into a three-dimensional experience.

AI - Generative Design Study

Semester: Spring 2024 | UMD

Location: N/A

This project investigates generative design through precedent analysis and strategic transformation. By reimagining Villa Savoye and Unité d'Habitation, I explored key spatial modifications and synthesized their architectural principles into a cohesive hybrid concept.
